Council authorizes financing for new sewer jetter, waives competitive bidding

The Mount Carroll City Council on Sept. 24 authorized purchase and financing for a replacement sewer jetter after staff reported the current unit dates to 1985 and can overheat during extended runs. The council voted to waive competitive bidding and approved a three-year financing arrangement at 5.75% with annual payments of $25,916.00.
Water and Sewer Superintendent Jonathan Armstrong said the city ‘‘cannot be without one if there is a major problem,’’ explaining the operational risk posed by the aging machine. Council members recorded a unanimous roll-call vote in favor. Armstrong also said the city has a potential buyer for the old jetter and estimated resale proceeds of about $5,000 to $7,000.
