Town auditor flags negative enterprise fund, urges town to consider higher water and sewer rates

Roy Geiser of UHY, LLP presented the Fiscal Year 2023–24 financial audit and told the Trappe Town Council that “the General budget is in good standings,” but the Enterprise budget is operating in the negative. Geiser said the town faces substantial infrastructure projects that will increase debt and recommended the council consider increasing water and sewer rates to shore up the utility fund.
Town Administrator Erin Braband filed the Clerk’s Report and the audit documents with the town records. The audit presentation prompted discussion about timing and public communication of any rate adjustment; the council did not take action at the March 5 meeting and directed staff to include the issue in future budget work and outreach.
