Asian PAC asks SFUSD to standardize language programs and build a local teacher pipeline

Representatives of the Asian Parent Advisory Committee presented three priorities to the Board of Education: standardize language-program curricula across sites, create a local pipeline for bilingual teachers and strengthen tiered supports and disaggregated data for Asian subgroups.
Kimberly Chong, Asian PAC co-chair, told the board: "We strongly recommend the school district to standardize and align the language programs and curriculum across all schools offering language programs within the school district," and asked the district to simplify enrollment materials so families can more easily find language-program options.
Orlando Leon, Asian PAC secretary, pushed for better data and accountability: parents asked the district to disaggregate Asian subgroup data so planning and supports target specific needs. Superintendent Dr. Hsu and multilingual-pathways staff said the district is translating adopted materials into simplified and traditional Chinese, partnering with San Francisco State to recruit bilingual teachers, and offering scholarships for BCLAD certification to support teacher credentialing.
Commissioners and student delegates asked about measuring success; staff told the board they will add more disaggregated ethnic-group data to the public dashboard in the 2026–27 school year and are scoping teacher recruitment pilots. The presentation concluded with a pledge from Asian PAC and staff to work together on pipeline and retention strategies.
