The Chawanakee Unified School District Board of Trustees voted at 5:33 p.m. on Feb. 10 to move into Closed Session to consider the superintendent's performance evaluation under Government Code Section 54957. Trustee Elisabeth Parish made the motion to move into Closed Session and Trustee Seth Waltner seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
California Government Code Section 54957 authorizes public agencies to hold closed sessions for public employee performance evaluations; by law the substance of those closed sessions is confidential and need not be disclosed in the public minutes. The board reconvened to Open Session at 6:22 p.m. on a motion by Parish, seconded by Waltner, and stated there was "No reportable action." Trustee Seth Waltner then moved to adjourn at 6:23 p.m.; Trustee Jessie Hutchens seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Because the evaluation occurred in Closed Session, the minutes correctly record only that the session occurred under the cited statute and that no reportable action followed the closed meeting.
