Superintendent reports enrollment rise, new third-grade classroom and $30,000 meal-program grant

Superintendent Cherise Olvera reported to the Chatom Union School Board on Sept. 11 that district enrollment has risen, placing some students on a waitlist, and that the district opened a new third‑grade classroom on Thursday, Sept. 4 to provide additional capacity.
Olvera also said the Food Services Department received a $30,000 grant—$15,000 per site—to support the 2025–2026 School Breakfast Program and the Summer Meal Program. She added the Mountain View gym HVAC unit is operating at about 50–60% capacity and that the district is exploring repair and replacement options.
