SCOE reports $181,699 CHP grant to expand impaired-driving education

The Solano County Office of Education reported at Wednesday’s board meeting that it has received a $181,699 grant from the California Highway Patrol under the CTFGP Education Grant program.
A staff member described the funding as supporting district and county work with youth to build capacity for youth-led strategies that inform the community about the dangers of driving under the influence and promote drug- and alcohol-free lifestyles. “We have received a $181,699 grant from the California Highway Patrol, and we received it last year. And so we're receiving it again this year,” the staff report said.
Staff said the funding will support targeted programming such as consultant-led arts and music outreach, prevention education and community messaging to reduce impaired driving. Trustees congratulated staff on securing the grant and asked that details on how funds will be deployed be returned in a future report.
What’s next: Staff will provide the board with program-level descriptions of activities funded by the CHP grant and timelines for implementation.
