The Corning Union High School District Board of Trustees voted June 19 to adopt the district budget and Resolution No. 478 while attaching three contingencies to limit a projected deficit to $200,000 or less.
Board Clerk Cody Lamb moved to approve the budget and Reid Lamson seconded. Chief Business Officer Diana Davisson explained that the district is currently deficit spending due to lower enrollment and timing of grant receipts; at the time of the meeting the district had until July 14 to update the budget and LCAP. The board recorded aye votes from Trustees Tony Turri, Reid Lamson, Cody Lamb and Jim Bingham; Trustee Larry Glover was absent.
The board approved three contingencies tied to the resolution: move the budget adoption one month prior to the adoption meeting, hold the deficit to $200,000 or less, and begin a study session between administration and the board as soon as possible. Davisson described the regular interim accounting process — adjustments at first interim and P1 to reflect enrollment and ADA — and noted grant-funded positions can create timing variances.
The approval was procedural but substantive: trustees directed administration to continue modeling reductions and to return with a plan if the $200,000 target cannot be met by first interim. No specific cuts were adopted at the meeting.
