County proclaims Small Business Saturday and National Adoption Month; several advisory board appointments approved

The Sedgwick County Board issued two proclamations and completed a slate of routine appointments at its Nov. 20 meeting. Commissioner Dennis read the Small Business Saturday proclamation calling attention to local small-business contributions and citing national SBA statistics; Wendell Funk accepted on behalf of the Wichita Independent Business Association (WEBA).
The board also proclaimed November 2024 as National Adoption Month in Sedgwick County. Shannon Wilson of Ember Hope Connections said that since taking the contract in July 2024 the organization had helped more than 50 adoptions in the county and that 29 children were scheduled for adoption on National Adoption Day. Commissioners encouraged community involvement to find permanent homes for the roughly 75 foster youth the proclamation cited as still waiting for adoptive resources.
In appointments business the commission accepted the resignation of Brian Porter (5th District CAB) and appointed Patrick Pekalski (District 5 CAB), David Eberle (District 4 CAB), and Stacy Rogers to the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Advisory Board; Kelly Arnold administered the oath to Rogers.
