Sheriff's Office Benefit Fund delivers food boxes to 400 families, officials say

The Sedgwick County Board of County Commissioners heard a county-good-news presentation about the Sheriff's Office Benefit Fund food-box drive, which staff said delivered roughly 800 boxes to about 400 families this season. Brandon Stitt, introduced at the meeting as the Sheriff's Office public information officer, said the drive started at a volunteer site and involved law enforcement, fire districts and community partners.
Sergeant Robbie Heffner, who described the program from the podium, said the effort "has been going on for over 30 years" and emphasized that donations fund the operation. "Each family gets 2 boxes," Heffner said, adding the boxes are stocked with nonperishable items that can last more than a week. Heffner credited partnerships with local schools, law enforcement referrals and Kroger, which provided food and the facility. He noted that the fund is 100% donation-supported and pointed commissioners and the public to a QR code for contributions.
Commissioners praised the volunteers and the sheriff's office for organizing the drive. The board voted to receive and file the county announcements without objection. The presentation also introduced Brandon Stitt in his new role with the sheriff's office and thanked communications staff for production support.
