Members of the Rodgers Ranch Oversight Committee reported to the board on May 15 about recent student enterprise activities and facility needs at Rodgers Ranch, the district’s hands-on agriculture and CTE site.
Student leaders and FFA advisors described greenhouse propagation and the spring plant sale, cut-flower propagation, poultry and small-animal projects, and cattle care. Greenhouse student managers are preparing plant sales and floral production; the poultry program hatched laying hens and prepared meat birds for a school banquet. Committee materials provided to trustees noted orchard plantings, new coops, storage updates, and an expanding student-run R-Farm storefront.
Committee members and staff asked the board to prioritize erosion mitigation along the ranch creek and to approve a schedule of maintenance and modest capital repairs — including additional power to small-animal areas, lamb pen construction and fencing — to support instruction and enterprise sales at the R-Farm storefront. An endowment update showed modest market gains and recommended continued stewardship; an industry advisory turn-out at the April CTE showcase was lower than hoped, and staff said they will expand outreach to feeder schools and community partners next year.
