Board honors county student winners — students recognized for science fair, spelling bee and Academic Decathlon

Trustees and staff recognized multiple students at SCOE’s May meeting, including Student of the Month honorees Edward Russell and Natalia Rosas, winners from the Solano County Science and Engineering Fair, spelling bee champions and the Academic Decathlon team and advisor for regional and state placings.
The Solano County Office of Education recognized individual students and teams during the superintendent’s report. Amy Samerick introduced Edward Russell as the SCOE Special Education Student of the Month, praising his kindness and leadership; Dr. Garrett and Golden Hills staff introduced Natalia Rosas as the JCCS Student of the Month and noted her plan to graduate early and advocate for foster care youth.
Kelly Birch and other SCOE staff presented Solano County Science and Engineering Fair winners (more than 150 entries across elementary, middle and high school divisions) and announced certificates from the California State Senate, Legislature and the local U.S. congressional representative for division winners. SCOE also recognized spelling bee and Academic Decathlon winners; the decathlon advisor David Kenyon and student leaders were commended for regional and state results.
Trustees and staff praised students’ achievements and invited families and community members to celebrate at upcoming promotion and graduation events listed by the schools. No formal board action was associated with the recognitions.
