Board approves year-end closing, labor sunshine items and meeting-time change

The Corning Union High School District Governing Board voted unanimously May 15 to adopt Resolution No. 477, the district’s 2024–25 year-end closing resolution authorizing the county superintendent to make any necessary transfers to balance 2024–25 accounts.
The motion was made by Larry Glover and seconded by Cody Lamb; the vote was recorded with Glover, Tony Turri, Cody Lamb and Jim Bingham voting aye and trustee Reid Lamson absent. Superintendent Miguel Barriga told the board the authorization allows routine year-end adjustments that local auditors commonly require.
In the same meeting, the board accepted “sunshine” items for bargaining with both certificated and classified units for 2025–26. That motion, offered by Cody Lamb and seconded by Larry Glover, also passed unanimously among board members present. Board members noted the sunshine acceptance is a procedural step that moves both sides to formal bargaining.
The trustees also voted to change the board’s regular meeting time during June–September from 6:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. after a motion from Glover, seconded by Lamb. Board members said the earlier start during the summer months improves convenience for staff and student events.
The meeting began with routine reports from the student board member, school principals, HR and counseling, and the consent agenda — covering the April 24 minutes, detailed warrants, interdistrict attendance requests and personnel actions — was approved as a single motion. The consent package also included an agreement to renew legal services with Lozano Smith and authorization for the district’s Consolidated Application (ConApp) to the California Department of Education.
