Notus council rejects insertion of a letter into April 6 minutes; approves minutes as presented
Summary
Councilwoman Lupita Connor moved to add a letter to April 6 minutes but the amendment failed on a tie and a mayoral no. A subsequent motion to approve the April 6 minutes as originally presented passed after the mayor broke a tie in favor.
Councilwoman Lupita Connor asked that a letter she handed out and read be added to the April 6 meeting minutes. City Attorney Todd Lakey told the council that “meeting minutes are a summary of motions and action taken by Council and that her letter would be not necessarily be part of the minutes but would be part of the public record should anyone want to request a copy of it.”
The amendment motion — to add the letter into the minutes — resulted in a tie (L. Connor yes, B. Connor yes, Hartsock no, Ahlborn no). Mayor David Porterfield cast the deciding vote against the amendment and the change was denied. Immediately afterward, Councilman Steve Ahlborn moved to approve the April 6 minutes as presented; Hartsock seconded. That approval likewise produced a tie among council members and the mayor voted yes, enabling the council to adopt the minutes as presented.
