Lynn Glend nominated Hales for chair, and the nomination was seconded by Donald Chang; the commission voted unanimously. "I, would like to nominate Ted Hales as chair of the Public Safety Commission," Glend said during the nomination. Commissioners later agreed to retain a practice of rotating secretaries but to identify the current secretary in minutes in case questions arise in the future.
The commission also discussed minutes format as part of organizing its officers. Members favored a concise "action minutes" template that still records movers, seconders and key discussion points. The appointments and minutes-format preference were recorded without any opposing votes.
