Committee member described drone spraying as a precision tool that can target identified infestations and minimize herbicide use; members emphasized early detection and coordinated surveys as the most cost-effective initial step. The group also discussed partnering with ranchers and NRCS on a virtual-fencing pilot to protect restoration plantings from grazing; a committee member said the satellite-based option could overcome terrain limits but noted current base-station costs are high.
Members suggested Hade County, Parks and Rec, the Guard and local conservation districts as likely partners and called for an initial outreach meeting in February to assemble a core group and identify grant opportunities, including emergency-management grants.
