Commissioners flag shortage of fields, unsafe access to Eagle Bike Park and call for partnerships

Commissioners said the city is approving new housing without ensuring sufficient active open space or safe routes to recreation facilities, leaving youth teams to travel outside Eagle for games.
"We're approving as the city a lot of new developments and a lot of our space is going away," Commissioner Dan Faustina said, adding that many local teams travel to nearby cities to play. Faustina proposed partnerships with school districts to build dual-use gyms and asked the commission to press developers for usable active open space rather than small, inaccessible strips.
Commissioners also raised safety concerns for people trying to reach the Eagle Bike Park on foot or by bike. Faustina mentioned a recent fatal bike accident and said crossings from foothill neighborhoods remain dangerous; commissioners noted the problem may require multijurisdictional coordination because some required connections depend on developers or neighboring jurisdictions.
Members agreed to pursue public–private partnerships, prioritize safe-passage projects in the master plan and press staff for an inventory of field and gym capacity so the commission can make concrete recommendations to council.
