Mary May named council president as new members sworn in

Mayor opened the meeting and administered oaths to incoming members after brief recognitions of outgoing councilmembers. The mayor moved to appoint Mary May, and the motion carried after a second and roll-call approval. Councilmember discussion earlier in the meeting addressed whether newly sworn members should assume leadership positions immediately; one nominee declined, saying personal caregiving obligations made the role impractical at this time. As one council member said during discussion, “I respectfully decline,” explaining a need to focus on family health matters (speaker 5).
