Clarksville council appoints Brent Wilson as fire chief

The Clarksville Town Council voted unanimously to appoint Brent Wilson as the town's new fire chief on Nov. 18; Manager Beatty clarified the statutory process for chiefs and said the outgoing chief may revert to his previous rank.
Brent Wilson was appointed Clarksville's new fire chief during the Town Council's Nov. 18 meeting after Councilman Stotts moved to appoint him and the motion received six votes in favor.
Wilson thanked the council and the community, saying, "I really do appreciate your consideration for my appointment this evening. I'm truly grateful for the trust that you guys have placed in me and for the trust that the community has placed in me." Town Manager Beatty later clarified that appointment and removal of chiefs is governed by state statute and described chiefs as "soft" ranks that revert to a hard rank on the appropriate merit board when no longer serving in the chief role. The council also announced Assistant Chief Dennis Johnson will remain in that post.
