Board approves $64K in change orders for CUHS ag/classroom project; clerk urges earlier notice of CORs

At the Aug. 7 meeting Corning trustees approved a set of change orders (CORs 22–31) related to the campus ag classroom and shop additions, as part of construction work on the project.
The item listed individual CORs, some adding cost and some crediting changes, including items such as countertop-color upgrades, tile-work adjustments, additional site/lighting work and utility/fiber work. The board packet listed amounts for the CORs — for example, COR 22 ($14,151.90), COR 23 ($1,217.97), COR 24 (-$26,871.31 credit), COR 25 ($17,974.32), COR 30 ($33,148.41) and COR 31 ($14,491.25). The board voted to approve the package of change orders.
Board clerk Cody Lamb asked the contractor and administration to bring future change orders to the board before the work is completed, not after. "I would like to see these come to board prior to being completed not after the work is already done or decided on," Lamb said.
Why it matters: change orders alter the project budget and schedule; board members said they want more prior notice and a cap or policy to guard against unbudgeted overruns.
What’s next: administration said it will prepare language and a process to route larger change orders to trustees earlier in the process and to bring budgeting proposals so the board can track cumulative costs.
