Corning Union High board approves electric-bus charging project, asks for independent inspection

Board members voted to approve the project after staff described the scope as including design and a bill‑of‑materials package for charging equipment. The motion, made by Trustee Cody Lamb and seconded by Trustee Jim Bingham, carried with all present voting “aye.”
Superintendent Miguel Barriga told the board he would arrange for oversight. "I will make sure to work on a contract with Ray to inspect this," he said. The board also asked that final contract language include proof of insurance and a detailed scope of work before any site work begins.
Why it matters: the district is pursuing electric buses and associated charging infrastructure to support transportation modernization and meeting state clean‑fleet goals. Director of Maintenance and Operations Joe Fenske had flagged charging stations earlier in the meeting as a planned item among several facilities priorities, including parking lot sealing and field drainage.
What’s next: staff will return with a drafted contract and the identity of the inspector. The board’s conditional approval lets procurement proceed to the next step while retaining a check that the installation will be inspected by an outside professional.
