Fire chief honors three civilians for lifesaving CPR after child pulled from retention pond

Fire Chief Jamie Westell told the council the department was honoring three civilians who rendered immediate aid after a child was found floating and unconscious in a retention pond. Westell recounted arriving to find CPR already in progress: “I shouted for help as I jumped into the water, lifted him out, and ran him forward our yard,” and credited immediate bystander CPR and 911 dispatch for restoring a pulse and breathing before transport to the hospital.
Chief Westell said the three individuals would receive the department’s civilian lifesaving award; Mayor Mark W. Myers and Chief Coy joined the presentation. The chief described the incident as an example of “purposeful and intentional participation in life” and thanked the bystanders and first responders for the successful outcome.
