Council directs staff to study advanced air mobility and potential vertiport locations

A council member urged the city to begin studying advanced air mobility (AAM) and possible vertiport locations, saying the state and federal regulatory environment is evolving and neighboring cities have already pursued approvals. "This 1 is generally just a an approval that allows our public works to look into advanced air mobility, AAM," the council member said when introducing the item.
Council members and staff discussed technical details including potential footprints and whether rooftop or ground sites could be used; one member explained that a vertiport's "geographical footprint for a vertical airport... is one acre" and noted nearby jurisdictions could provide lessons learned. The council asked staff to coordinate with Roswell and Alpharetta, research TSA and FAA requirements and return recommendations at the retreat or a future meeting.
