Daniels County appoints ex officio to Local Government Study Commission and swears in members

Daniels County commissioners on Nov. 22 appointed an ex officio member to the Local Government Study Commission and administered the oath of office to the newly formed commission.

Chair (speaker 3) opened the meeting and led discussion about candidate interest, noting that one prospective appointee declined and that Tammy and Jess had expressed interest. "Will you wanna nominate somebody?" the chair asked; a nomination for Jesse was made, seconded, and the commission voted in favor. Later the commission led the oath for the study commission: "I will support, protect, and defend... Of Daniels County Local Government Study Commission. With fidelity, so help me God," the oath-trackers recited.

The commissioners discussed initial organizational steps for the study commission, including attending an upcoming statewide training in Sidney and establishing a regular meeting schedule. They noted the training cost at $275 per person and agreed to handle registration and travel from the study commission budget lines. The chair said the commission would defer some permanent organizational decisions, like selecting a permanent presiding officer, until after members attend training.

The commission also confirmed that county staff and the sheriff's office would support recordkeeping and logistics while the study commission establishes its meeting cadence.
