Mary Nahius (S5), identified in the meeting as the Daniels County mitigation officer and floodplain administrator, reported she received a letter about a city's wastewater improvement project being designed by Great West Engineering and said the project should be reviewed and signed off by the county floodplain administrator before proceeding. She told the board she had requested more information from the engineer and had not yet received plans for review.
Nahius also raised environmental concerns stemming from a diesel spill near lagoons and reported that the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) would install monitoring wells; she said the next update would be Feb. 28. In discussion, commissioners cited rough remediation cost estimates in the range of $500,000–$750,000 to replace tanks and infrastructure. Nahius asked the board whether the county should sign the letter and said she would contact the engineer and report back: "I'm saying...I'm actually the mitigation officer, but there there you go."
