Librarian asks Daniels County to extend hours, board considers cameras and parking changes

Mary or library staff presented a plan to change library hours to better support children's programming and evening activities, asking the board to move regular open hours to 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Monday through Friday and to keep Thursday open until 8 p.m. The staff member said the change "would allow room for there" and noted only one patron typically uses the 9–10 a.m. slot.
Library staff also brought forward a security-camera estimate from Nimont for about $3,000 for five motion-activated cameras positioned in the hallway, front of the building and in the alley. The staff member explained the cameras would be motion activated and that some cheaper alternatives such as trail cameras were discussed; a commissioner noted trail cameras typically capture footage to an SD card, "after the fact." Board members suggested exploring a trial period for turning off the public router to discourage non-patron use, and discussed working with the city on signage to reserve parking for patrons.
