Vice Chair Doctor Lee used his announcements time to tell the board he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer last year and to urge men aged 40 and older to get PSA tests. He said his diagnosis date was June 13, that he underwent surgery and is sharing his experience publicly to encourage screening.
"If you're a male in here over 40 and you haven't had it checked, get your PSA levels checked, please," Vice Chair Doctor Lee said, and offered to speak with residents by phone or email. He told residents that a PSA is a blood test often performed during an annual physical and suggested asking a clinician to add the test at routine visits. He also offered personal support and said he would not mind receiving calls to discuss what to expect.
