Mayor Bryan Jensen asked the Avon City Council to adopt a temporary moratorium on data center development under Ordinance No. 37-26 so the City can study potential impacts before permitting new projects. Jensen said the Administration’s review indicates significant local infrastructure implications and requested time to gather information and watch potential state action.
"data centers would place significant stress on the City's infrastructure," Jensen said, arguing that while water supply appears adequate, the electrical and service demands of data centers could outweigh local benefits. Law Director John Gasior told Council there are ongoing efforts at the state level, including attempts to pursue a constitutional amendment related to data centers, and that a local pause is a timely response while statewide developments proceed. The moratorium was presented for Council consideration at its April 13 reading; no formal vote occurred at the April 6 work session.
