Council approves Roth 457 option for city employees

The Sylvania City Council voted to add a Roth 457(b) option to the city's Ohio deferred compensation offerings in Resolution 7-2026.
Councilmember Missus Smith explained that employees have requested the Roth 457 option for several years and that the plan would give staff a post-tax contribution choice that grows tax-deferred and is withdrawn under current law accordingly. "For several years, our employees have been inquiring about adding, Roth 4 57 to our investment options," Smith said. Council members confirmed that the city will not make an employer contribution to the Roth option.
Councilmember Brian McCann moved adoption by title and, after a second, the measure was approved as an emergency measure. No changes to current city contribution practices were adopted; the resolution provides an additional voluntary option for employees.
