Three new members sworn in at Rowlett City Council meeting

Judge Kilgore administered the oath of office to three newly elected Rowlett councilmembers during the May 13 meeting, formally seating Chris Guzart (Place 1), Byron Fassett (Place 3) and Carter Holston (Place 5).
Each new member repeated the oath to "preserve, protect, and defend the constitution and laws of the United States and of the state," after which colleagues and guests offered congratulations. Chris Guzart thanked voters and said the council will work to "solve" current problems; Byron Fassett said he appreciates the opportunity and pledged to earn the votes of those who did not support him; Carter Holston listed three guiding principles — ethics and honesty, making things better, and avoiding harm — that he said he will be held to as he serves.
The swearing-in followed the council's certification of the May 2 election results earlier on the agenda and was accompanied by certificates presented by State Representative Retta Andrews Bowers. No policy votes or budget decisions were taken as part of the swearing-in ceremony.
