Council considered Ordinance 26‑21, an update to the 2026 salary ordinance for nonunion employees, and approved it for second reading and emergency passage by a 7–0 vote.
Director Pate explained the ordinance corrects two items: it adjusts police and fire chief salaries to be 16.8% higher than the highest negotiated amount for command staff, and it accounts for a 27th payroll in 2026 that raises top‑salary calculations for affected positions. “They, being the chiefs, get a 16.8% salary higher than the highest negotiated amount,” Pate said.
Council placed the ordinance on second reading and approved emergency passage; the vote was unanimous. The finance committee then concluded its business.
