Fairview Park advances firefighter contract with roughly 15% pay package under emergency rules

Council members moved unanimously to place Ordinance 26‑19, the firefighter contract for 2026–2028, on second reading and for emergency passage after a detailed presentation by the city’s labor attorney, John Delaney.
Delaney told the council the negotiations were driven by regional market pressures and recruitment concerns. “The net of that was approximately a 15% increase,” Delaney said, summarizing the package that included a $4,800 equity increase to the top step, stepped annual raises and a raised starting rate for new hires. He also said the city negotiated a cap on its health‑savings‑account contributions and adjusted dental and vision premium splits so employees will pay 15% of those premiums.
Councilwoman Greenfield moved the ordinance onto second reading and for emergency passage; the roll call produced a 7–0 vote (Mister Lang; Mister Minnick; Miss Greenfield; Miss King; Missus Waring; Mister Railey; Missus Mann recorded as yes) and the measure advanced. The council president closed the finance portion of the meeting and the body moved on under the evening’s agenda.
