PDC issues enforcement orders in two hearings; orders fines and 30‑day compliance windows

The Public Disclosure Commission concluded two brief adjudicated hearings and issued enforcement orders in both matters. Chair Leach announced findings of violations in the Bethel Citizens Committee case and the Doug Weiss candidate case and set fines with suspended portions conditioned on filing or amending missing reports within 30 days.
Bethel Citizens Committee for School Support was ordered to pay a $600 fine with $350 suspended provided the committee files and/or amends the listed C3 and C4 reports and pays the unsuspended $250 within 30 days. Staff told commissioners that missing C4 disclosures totaled $22,803.82 and that multiple reports were late, including pre‑election filings.
Doug Weiss was ordered to pay a $250 fine with $100 suspended if the campaign files the required 2023 pre‑ and post‑primary C4 reports and pays the unsuspended $150 within 30 days. Staff described outreach efforts and ORCA access assistance to the campaign; a prior late F1 matter for the respondent had been resolved earlier with a $100 penalty.
During public comment, Connor Edwards urged the Commission to raise suspended penalties and pursue collections more vigorously, calling the current suspended fines "indulgences" because they do not deter noncompliance. The Commission adjourned the meeting after taking the actions and hearing public comment.
