City planning staff presented a special use permit (SUP) request to expand an unmanned aerial systems (UAS) hub at 5408 Kenwood Drive. Michael King described the SUP area (roughly 2.85 acres total with less than one acre used for operations), temporary allowances (gravel paving in lieu of concrete for a limited period), an existing temporary container used for equipment, and screening proposals. Planning & Zoning recommended approval with a 12‑month timeframe to meet certain conditions; staff recommended approval consistent with that recommendation.
King described operational limits included in the SUP: the UAS hub shall not exceed 15,000 square feet, would have up to 11 double‑dock towers with kiosk loading, and must be located at least 500 feet from adjacent existing residences to the north and northeast. Council members asked about enforcement history and whether the operator had received complaints; staff reported no police complaints as of late February. After the public hearing (no public opposition was offered), council approved the SUP with the time-limited conditions recommended by P&Z and staff.
