Gerardo Carvajal, the district Teacher on Special Assignment for Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA), presented a district-wide overview of arts offerings and a proposed three-year strategic plan to the Board on Jan. 20. Current offerings include dance, general music, instrumental music, visual arts, mariachi, band, orchestra, guitar, art club and musical-theatre experiences available through partnerships.
Carvajal described the plan as one that "focuses on expanding inclusive and culturally relevant instruction, strengthening community partnerships, and developing sustainable systems and funding to support program growth." The presentation highlighted existing partnerships, upcoming events, and outreach efforts intended to broaden access to arts programming across the district.
