Council members reviewed health-insurance options from St. Luke’s at the April 6 meeting. Mayor David Porterfield said rising plan costs are a concern for the city budget and noted that the city historically had not needed to budget for employee coverage when staff were covered by spouses’ plans.
Council President Rob Hartsock said many insurers are reluctant to underwrite municipalities, and Councilwoman Lupita Connor suggested employees contribute toward premiums. The council did not adopt a plan or set a contribution level at the meeting; the item was discussed for future consideration.
