Mayor David Porterfield announced at the April 6 meeting that the city has hired a new treasurer, Anna Widmann, and introduced her to the council. Councilwoman Lupita Connor handed out and read a letter detailing financial-risk and governance concerns and requested that the council appoint a qualified full-time treasurer.
Mayor Porterfield responded to those concerns, saying, "we have checks and balances in place to prevent any mishandling of funds." Council President Rob Hartsock described existing safeguards, noting that he reviews each monthly bank reconciliation and dates and initials them. The council did not take a formal vote on changing treasurer staffing at the meeting.
