The University of Utah Board of Trustees voted to approve seven facility namings for the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine and authorized multiple new academic programs during its February meeting.
Heidi Woodbury, vice president for institutional advancement, presented the naming recommendations, saying the list includes a $40,000,000 gift for the med-school forum and a $15,000,000 gift from Intermountain Health for a building level. The board moved and approved the namings by voice vote. "These gifts represent a transformation of the medical school in our new building," one presenter said.
On academic programs, trustees approved a new bachelor of science in Health and Human Services from the College of Social Work, a BS in English Education in the College of Humanities, a professional master’s degree in Materials Engineering and Management in the College of Science, and a bachelor of science in Neuroscience. Philip Osteen, dean of the College of Social Work, described the Health and Human Services degree as designed to create stackable credentials and to map to Department of Health and Human Services job classifications. "This would allow us to create stackable credentials," Osteen said.
All motions reported in the transcript were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. The meeting record does not include a formal roll-call tally for each motion; transcripts record the outcome as approved by voice vote.
