Committee begins talks on power‑plant tax negotiations, asks taxing bodies to appoint representatives

State's Attorney Dan Markwell told the committee that taxing bodies previously hired Robbin Schwartz Law Firm for such negotiations and listed topics to consider: identifying each taxing‑body representative, meeting with taxing bodies before engaging outside counsel, and the plant's assessed value rising because of license renewals and outside contracts.
The committee instructed the Supervisor of Assessments to solicit names of representatives from the taxing bodies. Members also discussed contacting Constellation about a shortfall of tax dollars supporting the ambulance service and the possibility of a donation or other remedial step. The committee adjourned at 6:23 p.m. and set a working meeting to review FY26 budget requests on Sept. 9, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.
