Superintendent issues brief statement as parents demand transparency in staff misconduct case

"Our students' physical and emotional safety will continue to be the first priority of the Parkland School District," he said, and added the district would continue to cooperate with legal authorities but could not release additional details while the police investigation is active.
Members of the public told the board they were dissatisfied with the information provided. Parent Lauren Vargas said she and other parents had sought details from administration and received little, and she accused the district of permitting the staff member to be on-site during tech week while on administrative leave. "I am calling for your resignation," Vargas said directly to the superintendent. Laura Warmcastle, who said she filed Right-to-Know requests, told the board she believed there had been multiple prior incidents and demanded greater transparency to parents and the community. Board members emphasized limits on what can be shared because of personnel confidentiality and an ongoing criminal investigation; board director Cohen said administration had "fulfilled and exceeded" its responsibilities and expressed confidence in the leadership.
