Valencia donates rescue vehicle; Torrance County looks to shore up EMS fleet

County Fire Chief Gary Smith reported that the Valencia Fire Chief offered a 2008 diesel rescue vehicle with roughly 80,000 miles and explained the county still needs to equip it and complete title transfer. "The Valencia Fire Chief gave us a 2008 diesel motor with 80,000 miles. We just got to get radios in it and a gurney, and get the title transferred over to us," Smith said.
Commissioners noted the county's EMS and fire services have been underfunded for years and discussed using capital allocations in the interim budget to improve fleet readiness. No separate motion was recorded specifically to accept or outfit the donated vehicle; Smith and commissioners said they would work through logistics and funding as part of overall fleet planning.
