The council approved a license agreement authorizing Dunsmuir High School to use the city ball field and Little League field for football practice, games and related activities under a flat fee of $5,000. Staff said the amount replaces a prior lower fee ($4,400) and that license-language allows annual review of the fee. Selena Choad, speaking for families, urged the council not to increase costs in a way that burdens students and families who already face housing and economic pressures.
Council members clarified the license grants the school exclusive use for specified practice and season dates (Aug. 1—5Nov. 30) unless the school provides written consent for other events; staff said the existing reservation coordination between Park & Rec and the school has historically accommodated community events such as Brewfest. The motion to approve the amended license passed unanimously.
