The Dunsmuir City Council voted to increase its annual contribution to the Siskiyou Economic Development Council (SEDC) to $15,000, with payments to be prorated beginning Jan. 1.
City staff said the SEDC requested an increase after a decade without one and noted SEDC staff (including a local representative) now visits twice monthly to meet businesses. Vice Mayor Brian and finance committee members said they reviewed SEDC budgets and presentations and believed the city—s fiscal position could support the increase. "I can say that I believe we are in a great position financially," a council member said, recommending a prorated start in January.
There was no public opposition during the item; council voted in favor and directed staff to implement the payment schedule.
Next steps: the city will begin prorated payments in January and monitor SEDC deliverables; staff will continue to coordinate with the finance committee on future budget planning.
