Public comment at the meeting centered on a proposed warehouse/truck terminal near Orfield Road that residents said would add heavy truck traffic near multiple Parkland schools and bus routes.
Angelo Caggiano told the board, "Just imagine for a moment adding 900 trucks," and said his group, North Whitehall Taxpayers for Smart Growth, is preparing to oppose the project; he argued the traffic increase would raise crash risk at bus stops and on school routes. Attorney Kelly Sullivan read a prepared statement saying the ordinance and site access plans raise safety concerns for children, drivers and bus operations and urged the district to publicly oppose the Orfield Road exit for tractor trailers.
Dr. Madsen acknowledged the concerns, said the district has been in contact with municipal officials and has a point of contact, and pledged to "monitor direct impacts" and attend township meetings to speak when the district can demonstrate a direct effect on students or staff. The board did not take a formal position at the meeting, but members said they would keep an eye on the process and attend relevant hearings.
