A member of the public used the board's public-comment period to challenge the district's choice of vendors for its athletic apparel program and asked why only Nike and Under Armour appeared to have been considered.
Laura Warmcastle urged the board to explain the procurement scope and whether other manufacturers (Adidas, Reebok, Fila) were solicited, saying she was concerned about cost and durability. "I just wanted to bring it to the attention of the group ... regarding the Nike contract," she said, asking why only two companies were listed. Board members and administration responded that the committee and athletic department had reviewed proposals and reached out to other vendors as part of their process.
The athletics committee recommended approval of a contract from BSN Sports for the Nike rewards program; the board moved, seconded and voted to approve the contract during the meeting. A board member who had raised concerns earlier said administration had satisfied her questions after follow-up; the motion passed without recorded opposition at the meeting.
Administration said their review included purchase-history considerations and feedback from coaches and players that supported the recommendation, and noted student athletes may still choose individual footwear or gear.
