Commissioner Dantz moved to remove language referencing only "large scale" data centers to ensure the moratorium covers all data center types while staff conducts a review; the motion was seconded and the board voted unanimously to adopt the moratorium. County staff said the moratorium will allow review of definitions and may establish thresholds (for example, the state has used a 50 megawatt threshold in some contexts) and detailed conditions regarding water, power, noise and other local impacts.
The board instructed staff to return with proposed definitions, potential distinctions between large load and smaller facilities, and recommended regulatory language based on research. No specific approvals or denials of pending applications were reported at the meeting.
