Finance Committee approves salary resolutions for several elected county offices

The Henry County Finance Committee approved salary resolutions for the assessor, county clerk, circuit clerk and treasurer during its March 12 meeting. The committee adopted the assessor resolution (moved by Member Dale Stiles, seconded by Member Rex Kiser) and then approved separate resolutions for the county clerk (mover: Member Kippy Breeden; second: Member Rex Kiser), circuit clerk (mover: Member Lynn Sutton; second: Member Dale Stiles) and treasurer (mover: Member Lynn Sutton; second: Member Dale Stiles). All votes were recorded as roll call votes with unanimous approval by members present.

Committee members discussed the methodology behind the recommendations before the votes. Member Lynn Sutton asked about the overall strategy; the group referenced a salary study comparing county comparators, union comparators, department heads and elected officials and said the goal is to present salaries near the midpoint of the applicable range. The minutes also note the assessor is included in the elected salary cycle because state reimbursement affects that position’s funding. The meeting record contains no dissenting votes.
