Council hears restroom cost estimates and options for vault units and prefabricated flush buildings

Assistant Public Service Director Jon Bellack detailed the types and costs of park restrooms during the May 11 committee meeting, saying flush, pre-cast restroom buildings (CXT) "ran around $135,000-$140,000 for the building" and described benefits such as polyaspartic interior coating, concealed mechanical rooms for vandal-resistant plumbing, and integrated exterior water fountains.
Bellack contrasted those with vault-style (non-plumbed) restrooms used at remote trailheads, which he estimated at about $111,000 for the vault unit, and said site work and utility connections add variable costs. Director Hiscock noted the electrical service in flush restrooms also supports AED cabinets and that the city is assessing which parks with port-a-pots might be prioritized for replacement in future capital plans.
