Friedt Park turf field opens; parking lot work set to finish by June 30

Assistant Public Service Director Jon Bellack told the Public Ways Committee that on May 11 the Friedt Park field work was finished and “actually, a Lacrosse game was on the field right now,” signaling heavy public demand for the city’s first artificial turf field.
Bellack said the restroom passed final inspection about three weeks earlier and is fully open. He described a preconstruction meeting scheduled the next morning for the parking lot and basketball court and said the contractor is targeting substantial completion for the parking lot on June 30; the work will include a subbase, paving, a couple catch basins and new sidewalk. Bellack confirmed the project is funded in part by a $120,000 Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) grant that carries a June 30 funding deadline. Council members asked about overflow parking on nearby streets; Public Service Director Matt Hiscock and Assistant Director Bellack said there were no formal complaints but staff will monitor signage, sightlines and potential temporary restrictions during paving or high-use days.
