Council updates: holiday candlelight dinner, Comcast fiber work, Craner Field lights and other department reports

Councilmember Chris Larson reminded the public that the festival of lights candlelight dinner is Nov. 9 with two seatings; tickets are $30 and available at the city office. He also reported Comcast is installing a fiber backbone within city limits and asked residents to watch for door tags. Councilmember Todd Thomas and public-works staff described temporary issues with Craner Field lights and ongoing repairs intended to restore service in time for fall activities.

Chief of police reported increased call volume in August — 203 calls for service, 82 city citations, 43 infractions, 12 misdemeanors and seven felonies — and said an officer began academy training and the department is recruiting for a recent vacancy. Staff updates also covered downtown planning work, a community rec center RFI, and continued review of sidewalk and light-pole conditions in the downtown improvement effort.
