Downtown message sign replacement estimated at $36,109; city to explore funding

Scott Ziller of McKay Insurance presented options for the downtown time-and-temperature message sign, telling the council that "the quoted cost to replace the message sign is $36,109.29." Ziller said bulbs on the south side facing Smokey Row are failing and that the sign is no longer supported by vendors; McKay Insurance intends to keep and maintain the existing sign as long as possible while reviewing replacement options, including how to manage programming if the sign remains a message display.
City Administrator Rachel Reynolds said she added the item so the council could consider whether it would share replacement costs. Mayor Kody Jurgens noted the sign may qualify for a Downtown Revitalization Grant; Reynolds said she will research possible funding sources and report back to the council.
